Our History

A heritage B listed property designed by famous local architect Billy Thomas. This was his own home built in 1930 and has all the charm and detail that a house of this period can offer. Recently fully refurbished and adorned with antique furniture and lovely soft furnishings.

I purchased this property in June 2024 with a new project in mind when my daughter left home. Using fantastic local tradesmen we turned this girl around in just five weeks. The garden is a work in progress trying to establish what surprises it brings as each season unfolds.

My Story

Originally from Aberdeen, Scotland, I grew up on a sheep, beef and arable farm but spent my holidays from the age of fourteen working in my uncle’s 5 star hotels. A year at Tante Marie Cookery School in Surrey, England allowed me to travel and work. Some of my favourites being shooting lodges in Scotland to the chalets in the French Alps and villas on the Tuscan coasts of Italy and latterly the homesteads of New Zealand.

I moved permanently to NZ in 1999 to Banks Peninsula, opening businesses in Akaroa - Ma Maison restaurant in 2002, Ma Maison Deli in 2006 and Villa 114 in 2017.

Blessed with three fantastic, resilient and capable children. They continue to help out whether it’s yet another renovation project on the go or a catering job that requires extra hands.

  • Children are welcome to stay with us. We do ask that they do not walk around with food. They must be seated when eating and not touching furnishings with dirty hands.

    Any damage will be charged accordingly.

  • We are just over an hours drive from Christchurch.

  • We are pet friendly. We allow non shedding dogs. One dog limit.

    Please note charges may apply.

  • We of course would prefer if you stayed more than one night. We are happy to offer discounts for longer stays.

  • We have several off street parks available free of charge.

  • Check-in is between 15:00 and 18:00, and check-out is 11:00.

    You can request an early check-in or late check-out. Please note that we will do our best to accommodate your needs.

  • Continental breakfast is included.

    Homemade granola, yoghurt, fruit, toast and jams, eggs and orange juice.
